Being a Strong Black Woman is hard. I understand that because like many of you, I juggle being a wife, mother and business owner. However, there was a time in my life that was a critical turning point. My youngest daughter was born with Sickle Cell and was in and out of the hospital at least 12 times by the time she was 2. My life and family were turned upside down. After many trips to the emergency room, extended hospital stays and one hospital stay where she was at her worst, we decided to get her a bone marrow transplant. We felt we had no other choice in order to give her a chance at a healthy life.

During this time, I learned to juggle it all including the hospital stays without leaning on other people or asking for much help. However, once she was in the bone marrow process, I had no choice but to get help. I did not have enough strength to go through that process without an extended support system. Because I was overwhelmed and stressed, I decided to make some pivotal changes. 
1. I allowed others to help me. I allowed people to give me the support I had been giving to others for years.
2. I looked for things to be grateful for. Was my daughter being sick hard, yes, but she was alive and we were getting the help we needed for her to live a healthy life.
3. I got quiet, so that I could get healing and restoration through professional help and my relationship with God.

Because I struggled so much during that time and needed so much support, I wanted to share that support with you.

These are just a few of the things I did to make changes. I understand the pain and struggle of dealing with this and I want to help you!
This course is my way of supporting more women than I could possibly see in my therapy practice. I understand the pain that having to be strong can cause and I want to help you.

About the Course Creator:
Alisha Curry Walker

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Coach, Author and Speaker. I have worked in the counseling field for over 20 years. I am passionate about supporting women in being the best women they can be. A part of my passion in particular is to help Black women become their best, first for themselves and then for others. I strongly believe you can’t pour into others from an empty cup.

I've worked for many years in support of women individually, through their family, marriage, parenting and business relationships. I have seen the struggles of women, some of which are really deep rooted in trauma and some that are the growing pains of life. I  really enjoy helping women along their journey to become who they’ve always wanted to be. 

 I am also half of the dynamic duo,  The Marriage Coaches, where my husband and I coach couples on relationship concerns. We  are co-authors of I Love Being Married: A Guide to Divorceproof Your Marriage. I've also written articles for Essence Magazine online,  Black and Married with Kids and others. I was featured as a relationship expert on a popular TLC reality TV show. I  have launched a podcast specifically for women, The Best Woman

I have been happily married for 19 years and am the mother of four wonderful children.

My goal is to help women design the life they desire and deserve, an extraordinary life. I can’t wait to help you!
